  • DelRosarioLaw Partners enriched their relationship with London P&I Club through a Zoom virtual meeting with the Club’s claims team from various offices held on 25 November 2021.   • DelRosarioLaw Partners Charles Dela Cruz and Denise Cabanos together with Managing Associate Julius Yano acted as resource speakers at the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Lawyers’ Convention held virtually on 29 October 2021.

    Charles shared his insights and experience as Past President of the Maritime Law Association (MARLAW) in delivering the presentation, “Manifesting MARLAW’s Mandate”. Denise joined the open forum as MARLAW’s Immediate Past Chairman covering the more recent undertakings of said organization. Julius for his part, spoke on “Philippine maritime laws and MARINA rules and regulations: from the perspective of a private practitioner.” He is regularly invited to various MARINA fora and is currently MARLAW Public Relations Officer.

    DelRosarioLaw Partner Florencio Aquino was recently invited to be a guest speaker by the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy, Graduate School last 16 October 2021.  Florencio’s topic was on Filipino Seafarer’s Claims in the Philippines and he also discussed the Seafarer’s Protection Act.  Many thanks to PMMA GS for the invitation and being part of your ongoing seminars.

  • DelRosarioLaw Senior Partner Charles Jay Dela Cruz was invited again to be a resource speaker in the recently concluded Pre-Accreditation Training Program for Voluntary Arbitrators conducted by the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) in coordination with the Tripartite Voluntary Arbitration Advisory Council (TVAAC) held on August 9 to 13, 2021. In 2016 he obtained his Master of Laws degree with Distinction in International Maritime Law from the IMO-International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) in Malta. He likewise participated in the Summer Academy of the International Foundation for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg, Germany. For the academic year 2017-18 he returned to IMLI as the Nippon Foundation Lecturer in International Maritime Security Law.
     
    Among the organizations in which he is active are the Maritime Law Association of the Philippines of which he is the Public Relations Officer, the Institute for Maritime and Ocean Affairs and the ALMA Maritime Group.     DelRosarioLaw Partner Joseph Rebano was invited to be a lecturer by the Supreme Court of the Philippines, the Philippine Judicial Academy and the Special Committee for the Rules of Procedure for Admiralty Cases in the Training Seminar on the Rules of Procedure for Admiralty Cases which was held last 11-12 December 2019. 

    The training seminar is designed to apprise selected judges, court personnel and other stakeholders on the Rules of Procedure for Admiralty Cases as approved by the Supreme Court.   Participants included designated selected Judges, Branch Clerks of Court and Sheriffs of designated Pilot Admiralty Courts.  Joseph spoke on “Rules 6 to 7: Arrest of Vessel, Cargo or Freight”.

  • In close cooperation with Birgitta Hed of The Swedish Club, our Catherine Mangahas and Veronica Del Rosario-Aguinaldo made a presentation on “Understanding Legal and Practical Issues on Filipino Crew Claims” to Swedish Club Members in Donso, Sweden on 16 October 2019.
     
    On 23 October 2019, a similar seminar was organized by The Swedish Club to its Members in Hamburg, Germany conducted by our Charles Dela Cruz, Denise Cabanos and Aldrich Del Rosario.  

    Charles, Denise and Aldrich also lectured on the same subject organized by the West of England for its Members in Piraeus, Greece on 17 October 2019.

  • The Maritime Law Association of the Philippines (MARLAW), led by its President, DelRosarioLaw Partner, Denise Luis B. Cabanos, spearheaded a very successful and well-attended forum on 19 July 2019 at the Philippine Diamond Hotel, with the theme “Raising Awareness on Developments in Maritime Law.” Distinguished resources speakers, including Past President of MARLAW and DelRosarioLaw Partner, Charles Jay Dela Cruz, shared their insightful views on pertinent and interesting issues in maritime law and practice.   This was attended by more than 200 participants, mainly from the manning industry. This was the biggest and most attended MARLAW forum in recent history.
     
    DelRosarioLaw Senior Associate Julius A. Yano gave a series of lectures on the concept of archipelagic states under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The lecture was given before members of the Philippine Bar as part of the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education program for Filipino lawyers.
  • DelRosarioLaw Senior Partners Charles Dela Cruz and Herbert Tria together with Senior Associate Julius Yano conducted a Workshop at Odfjell Philippines, Inc. on 1 July 2019. They covered a wide range of topics dealing with “Updates on the POEA Standard Contract and the 2016 POEA Rules governing Seafarers; Loss Prevention approaches in Crew Claims Handling; and General Average, Cargo and Pollution liability issues”.

  • DelRosarioLaw Senior Associate Julius Yano gave a lecture on ECDIS, Navigational Incidents and Loss Prevention during the crew seminar organized by Synergy Ocean Maritime, Inc. last 8 June 2019.  The lecture discussed, among others, the regulations on ECDIS operation in relation to the importance of ECDIS training and familiarization. A case study was likewise presented and paramount importance on the proper use of an up-to-date system by competent crew was stressed.  The concept of Bridge Team Management was likewise discussed to ensure safe shipping.

    DelRosarioLaw Senior Associates Richard Sanchez and Maricris Ferrer attended the 2-day Skuld School course held at The Westin Singapore from 7-8 May 2019.  The course aims to introduce attendees to the rudiments of P&I insurance and discusses issues for a good working knowledge of the subject.

  • DelRosarioLaw Partner Catherine Mangahas attended the 18th General Assembly & 68th and 69th Council meetings of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) which was held last 17-21 November 2018 at New Delhi, India.   • Arturo T. del Rosario Jr. elected IPAP President for 2015 - 2017

    Co-managing partner Arturo has been elected President of the Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines (IPAP) for a three-year term starting 2015.  IPAP is the leading organization for Intellectual Property Law practitioners in the Philippines.   IPAP has remained committed to every aspect of the protection of intellectual property, and has assisted in the drafting of legislation and implementing rules relating to the many facets of Intellectual Property Law for the Congress of the Philippines, Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, Optical Media Board, and other government agencies.

  • The Asia Business Law Journal has named Managing Partners Arturo Del Rosario, Jr. and Ruben Del Rosario and Senior Partner Joseph Rebano as one of the Philippines Top 100 Lawyers in their recently published list.

  • DelRosarioLaw Senior Partner Charles Jay Dela Cruz was elected as member of the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Bar Association (PBA) for the term 2018-2019. Founded in 1891, PBA is the oldest and most prestigious voluntary national organization of lawyers in the Philippines.  

    Likewise, Charles was re-elected as Board Trustee and Corporate Secretary of the Philippines Norway Business Council (PNBC). PNBC is a non-profit organization which aims to promote closer economic and friendly relations between Philippines and Norway and serves as a forum for viewpoints on business and commercial dealings in both domestic and international settings. DelRosarioLaw acts as legal advisor to PNBC.

    Aside from serving in such Boards, Charles is a sought after speaker in various fora. He just spoke on the “Nuances of Retirement Law in the Philippines” at the 1st HR Compliance Conference held on 19-20 June 2018 at the SMX Aura Convention, BGC (and has been invited again at the 2nd edition in September 2018).

  • The team in our Firm handling crew matters involving Filipino personnel on-board cruise lines embarked on a courtesy visit to the major cruise companies based in Miami. One encouraging development noted during the visit is that newly-built ships will be launched this year which will translate to more overseas employment opportunities for Filipinos and in turn, fuel up the economy even more.   • DelRosarioLaw Partners Charles Dela Cruz and Herbert Tria were joint speakers at the Magsaysay Shipping and Logistics-Fairmont Marine Insurance Seminar held on 8 September 2017 at the Robert Hall, Times Plaza Building, Manila.  Their topic was “MLC Certificate on Financial Security: Improving the plight of Filipino Seafarers On-Board the Vessel”.
  • On 19 September 2017, Del Rosario & Del Rosario sponsored a seminar on the Data Privacy Act which was held at the DelRosarioLaw Centre. The guest speaker was the National Privacy Commission’s Chairman and Commissioner, Mr. Raymund Liboro. Commissioner Liboro provided a background and orientation on the relatively new law. Aside from providing practical insights, he likewise urged the manning industry to be among the first to formulate a sectoral code of conduct on data privacy together with the pertinent government regulators.
    On a related note, DelRosarioLaw Partner Charles Dela Cruz was a speaker at the Klaveness Compliance Seminar last 19 September 2017 which was held at Five ECom, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. He lectured on the Data Privacy Act and its Implementing Rules and Regulations
  • Del Rosario Pandiphil’s Edgardo Antonio A. Del Rosario, MD, Ruth F. Manalo, RN and Irish C. Villafuerte, RN participated as resource speakers in the Officers Dialogue of Multinational Maritime Inc, MMSPhil Maritime Services Corp. and Phil-Crewing Maritime Services Inc. held at their newly inaugurated office located in Cavite City last April 21, 2018.

    Their topic is “The Issue on the Increasing Trend of Suicide Onboard”, followed by an actively participated open forum.

  • Del Rosario Pandiphil medical consultant, Dr. Edgardo Del Rosario, through the Japan P&I Club, is a contributor to the Mariner’s Digest of the Japan Shipping Exchange, Inc.   Dr. Del Rosario, in a series of articles, has discussed common illnesses in seafaring such as: appendicitis, stones and mental illnesses.
  • DelRosarioLaw Partner Charles Dela Cruz was the Conference Chairman at the “Employment Law for HR Professionals, Masterclass 2017” held in Makati City on 3 May 2017.
    The conference was organized by Key Media and attended by close to 100 top-level Human Resource and Legal practitioners across various industries. It covered legal/ operational challenges and opportunities in the context of the workplace.

  • Managing Associate Pedrito Faytaren, Jr. was a guest speaker at the 22nd Crew Management & Review Seminar of Star Management Associates and Foscon Shipmanagement, Inc. conducted last 19-20 May 2016. His topic was on recent developments in crew claims jurisprudence and the Seafarers Protection Act.
  • DelRosarioLaw Partners enriched their relationship with Tokio Marine& Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. through a Zoom virtual meeting with the latter’s claims team from various offices held on 4 July 2022. The learning session was given by our Partners Joseph Rebano and Florencio Aquino who provided updates on the crew claims landscape in the Philippines.  An interactive session on related topics then ensued. We would like to thank TMNF for the fruitful meeting and we look forward to more mutually beneficial meetings – online or in-person – in the future.
  • Partner Denise Cabanos and Del Rosario Pandiphil in-house medical coordinator, Dr. Edgardo Del Rosario were guest speakers for the Bulk Carrier Advanced Workshop of Thome Shipmanagement PTE Ltd. last 2 June 2016.  Denise spoke on legal/commercial disputes arising from cargo claims and contaminations while Edgardo spoke on injuries/Illnesses of a crew on board the vessel.

  • Partner Charles Jay Dela Cruz was the lone Filipino speaker at the Offshore Crewing and Manning Summit organized by IBC Asia held on June 28 to 30, 2014 at Grand Copthorne Waterfront, Singapore.
  • Partners Charles Dela Cruz, Florencio Aquino and Senior Associate Pedrito Faytaren demonstrated their maritime legal, technical and “artistic” prowess when they took part in a Mock Arbitration involving ship collision scenario during the Joint Fellowship Conference between the International Maritime Employers’ Council (IMEC) and Maritime Law Association of the Philippines (MARLAW) held on 12 March 2014 in   Makati City.

  • The firm proudly announces the promotion of Saben Loyola as a Partner of Del Rosario & Del Rosario Law Offices.Saben is a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies and Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management from De La Salle University, Manila.  He took his Bachelor of Laws fromSan Beda College of Law, Mendiola, Manila (valedictorian and cum laude) and placed third in the 2003 bar exams.  Saben joined the Firm in July 2005 and his areas of expertise include general corporate law, mergers and acquisition, labor law and transportation litigation.

  • Partner Joseph Rebano was an invited speaker to the 40th Conference of the Comite' Maritime International (CMI) hosted by the China Maritime Law Association (CMLA) held in Beijing, China from 14 - 19 October 2012. Joseph, a past president of the Maritime Law Association of the Philippines (MARLAW) spoke on "Fair Treatment of Seafarers" together with Giorgio Berlingieri of the Italian Maritime Law Association.
  • Ruben T. Del Rosario, C0-Managing Partner, spoke in New York on June 2, 2015 on the topic “Updates on Filipino Crew Claims”.  The seminar was sponsored by Gard New York and the audience consisted of ship owners, ship managers, insurers, and maritime lawyers.  Other topics tackled at the seminar were “Managing Injury and Illness Cases in the US” by John Scalia and “Persons of Interest” by Christopher Petrie.
